Venation bench.

In 2020 I was invited to exhibit at Fresh Air 2022. The biennial sculpture exhibition provides a unique opportunity to see a creative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting edge sculpture in a stunning out door setting in the Cotswolds.

The “Venation bench” designed for the event takes inspiration from studying a leaf’s vein structure. The grain and sculpting of the timber radiates from the central vein and in turn reflects light and casts shadows in varying directions. The piece aims to provide visual movement across the surface.

The piece is designed to weather to a beautiful natural silver hue. The weathering process has been advanced by fuming the object in a chamber and bringing the natural tannin to the surface of the oak.
