Commissioning bespoke contemporary furniture.

“Without my being able to explain properly what it was I was looking for, You seem to have managed to create it 100% to my liking”

Commissioner - Ascot

A collaborative approach.

An initial enquiry may arise from the need of an object that doesn’t quite exist to your liking, the piece may be required to fit a unique space, to perform a specific function, or simply to satisfy a desire to own a unique piece of contemporary craft. Either way, in our initial conversation we will aim to resolve the brief by discussing your requirements.

With a few questions to ponder we can then arrange a meeting, where we can discuss the details further in the relevant environment. At this point I can also complete a thorough survey of the interior to inform the design process. My role as a designer is to consider all surrounding influences to the project, for example do you wish for the commission to seamlessly blend with the existing interior or is the function to command attention and take centre stage?

Design, budget and a vision.

Following the initial meeting, a concept begins to develop. I rely on a number of creative processes to resolve a design concept, these can include: Scale drawings, templates, life size mock ups, models, CAD drawings, material experimentation and material samples. Every commission is unique therefore a careful selection of processes can help to convey a clear understanding of the design and the impact within the environment.

On our second meeting a fully costed design proposal will be presented along with budgeting options. On the agreement of a design proposal a payment schedule will be provided. A 50% initial payment will then reserve the workshop schedule and purchasing of materials and the final balance will be requested on completion of the project.

A number of design hours are allocated without charge, however if the design process involves greater complexity or the project is of scale you will be notified of additional costs beforehand.

From design to realisation.

In the workshop the chosen design is then realised, with the upmost attention to detail. The best timber is personally selected and commissions are handcrafted to the finest of standards . The making process is fully documented and clients receive regular personal updates detailing how the work is progressing .

Workshop visits are welcomed at any time during the commissioning process.

“We were so pleased with the quality and craftsmanship displayed by the final result, that this has proved to be the first of many bespoke items that Kristian has subsequently produced for us”

Delivery and installation.

The exciting point for all concerned, seeing the work for the first time in the considered environment. Installation can vary from days to weeks depending on the intricacies of the project and at this point the final 50% balance or stage payment will be due to settle the project.

Previous commissioners have remained very much part of the studio-workshop and enjoy watching processes develop and further projects come to life
