Sculpted chest

On stepping into this environment it was immediately evident the owners were passionate about the arts and had great attachment to the objects they had surrounded themselves with. One of the true privileges of my work apart from meeting interesting people is the thought you are adding to a collection of treasured items.

A bespoke hallway chest was required to house scarfs, hats and daily essentials, helping the day to day functioning of the space . The sculpted chest has taken inspiration from the wake left by boats travelling along the adjacent river Thames and uses a sculpting technique previously explored.

Templates were taken of the space due to unusual angles and an example was mocked up to give an idea of scale and proportion. The piece was glued up in situ then fitted due to its size and access into the room.

To protect the precious fabric contents, drawers are lined with naturally scented cedar of Lebanon drawer bases. The chest also has a secret letter rack to hide away special documents.
