Extending dining

A large dining table was required occasionally in this instance to entertain family and friends, while providing a young family with a central hub for a busy daily life. A full size template mock up and 1:10 scale model of the table was provided. Due to the aesthetic variants in natural materials we opted to source the timber then experiment with finish options creating a number of custom samples to choose from. The clients opted for a natural maintenance finish on the main Oak top - this provides options for accidents and colour changes in the future.

To prevent the extensions from aging/colouring at different rates to the main table we decided to use the two component leaf’s for another low table in the sitting room. When the Main dining table is fully extended to three meters you are left with a smaller low table in the sitting room, ideal for a full house.

The table is highly engineered preventing any future movement of the timber used. A custom built hidden runner and bearing system provides a timeless smooth mechanism for extending the table.

A few months later the clients required an accompanying bench seat to compliment the table. A scale mock-up was used to visualise the piece and resolve the proportion and ergonomics.
